Instructions on how to play Ring of Fire, a card game which is one of the most universal and brutal drinking games with playing cards.

One of the main reasons why Ring of Fire rules is because every group of friends adopt a slightly different version of the game. There is no set of universal rules but there are a number of basic instructions which are employed by the majority of players.

Basic Rules for Ring of Fire Drinking Game

The game can be played with any amount of players but works best with a medium sized group of between 5-10 people. A pack of playing cards is spread face down in a circle around a pint glass. Each card signifies a different drinking activity which is decided upon and written down before the game begins. Players then take it turns to pick a card and partake in the activity which their chosen card represents. The game ends when all the cards have been removed from the ring.

Drinking Games Within Ring Of Fire

As mentioned previously, every group of friends will have a different activity for each card. However, these are the rules which are synonymous for the majority of players.

Cards 2-4 IMBIBE/NOMINATE: A player who picks up a red card between 2 and 4 has to knock back between two and four sips of their chosen beverage, depending on the number of the card. A player who picks up a black card between 2 and 4 gets to nominate a friend to do the same.

6 – BOYS IMBIBE: All male players must swig two sips of their chosen beverage.

7 – GIRLS IMBIBE: All female players must swig two sips of their chosen beverage

8 – NEW RULE: A player who picks this card up can devise a new rule which, if broken, will result in a penalty of two sips for the offending player.

10 – TOILET CARD: A player who finds this card will be excused to leave the room once during play. Any player who does so without a toilet card will be subject to a heavy penalty chosen by the players.

J – POSE MASTER: Whoever picks this card becomes the pose master and will remain in this role until the next pose master card is found. Upon finding the pose master card, the player must announce their pose of choice. This pose then has to be mirrored by the other players whenever the pose master adopts it. The last player to do so must take two sips of their chosen beverage. In some social circles, the pose master generates penalties by putting his thumb on the table forcing other players to do so and is hence called the ‘thumb master’ instead.

Q – QUESTION MASTER: A player that discovers a queen becomes the question master and will remain in this role until the next queen is found. Any player who answers one of the question master’s questions must knock back two sips of their beverage.

K – DIRTY PINT: Any player who picks up a king must pour a quarter pint of their beverage into the pint glass. Whoever picks up the fourth king must also do so before downing the whole pint. Many players choose to end the game once the fourth king has been discovered.

The remaining cards often represent basic drinking games where the loser has to down two sips of their beverage. These games include Waterfall, Fives, 21, Fuzzy Duck and Busta Rhyme.

Additional Penalties Within Ring Of Fire

Many players choose to add additional penalties for certain behaviour during the game. Players found partaking in this behaviour must swig two sips of their beverage.

Punishable behaviour includes use of the words ‘drink’ and ‘mine’, breaking the ring, swearing, pointing and right hand drinking.

How To Win Ring Of Fire

There are no winners in Ring Of Fire, only one loser unlucky enough to pick the fourth king.
